Trim the landing page

The current page is modelled on one I built elsewhere - hero, six-card feature grid, download cards - which is a shape suited to something being handed to a team. This project is not being advertised, so a plainer index (what it is, status, where the docs are) would fit better. Cosmetic, no hurry.
